My first sewing machine

Yesterday was my first experience with a sewing machine ever. At first it was a little intimidating because I have always hand sewn my whole life and a slight fear it cutting myself with a needle but beyond that was just looking at it and not knowing how to use it. I'd like to give my perspective as a beginner to help those who are thinking about trying it out too. It's not a thing for everybody so if you don't already have an interest in sewing it might not be for you. I'm not too technical with wording for a sewing machine because I've never used one before this so bear with me:) we were all beginners at some point right?

I purchased a Brother LX2763 which came with all of this stuff below-
Darning plate
Bobbin
Needle set
Oval screw driver
Foot control
Extra spool
Six included quick-change sewing presser feet: buttonhole, zipper, button sewing, zigzag, narrow hemmer and blind stitch feet
Introduction DVD

Sellers description- "Brother 27-Stitch Sewing Machine, LX2763. The Brother LX2763 is perfect even for beginner sewers, with a full range of features and a lightweight, portable design. Loaded with features, the Brother LX2763 offers 27 built-in stitches, with 63 stitch functions. Included are blind hem, decorative and quilting stitches and an automatic, one-step buttonholer"

What made me want this machine was the one step button hole. I've done plenty in my previous projects at home so it was pretty important to me to have this. Another thing about it is the auto threading on the needle, I just loop the string through and hook it on a tiny hook that fits in the eye of the needle and it pulls it through. Some people can thread a needle easily but I have a problem getting it right.

This is very user friendly and has instructions on the top for winding your bobbin and how to place it in the bottom threader.

The DVD that is included is so helpful in getting to know the machine, it tells you all the functions like changing the dial, adjusting the tension and how to use the buttonholer. The dial is clearly labeled so you can see all the stitch options you have and simple to switch.

My first project I did was a bow tie, its a very simple thing to try and I already knew the process to make it so it was ideal for me to make. it took me about 10 minutes to make it which includes cutting out the fabric, sewing it and hand sewing the snaps on myself.

So far I haven't had any problems with it. I've just been working on my bow ties but now that I'm more comfortable I was going to start looking at other projects to try out. I'll follow back with an update on my progress and how I am liking my machine. Thank you so much for reading and following my experiences in this crafting life, I hope this helps you in looking for your own sewing machine.

Until next time my lovelies,

Ariel
