Home organizing tips

I finally started my adventure on Etsy and taking a leap to be more out there. Things have changed over the past year and on to this new year as well. With a new baby in the home and a toddler running around I have my work cut out for me. I'm up for the challenge:)

I've found myself looking to be more organized since, I keep misplacing everything. I have made a small list to kick start my spring cleaning:

1. This is the hardest step in my opinion, start to get rid of the things you don't need. Now that the holiday season and birthday season in our home is done with, start filling boxes with your old items that you don't need anymore. You can take a box with you room to room and start to fill it up as you organize and see what you don't have any room for.

2. In the pantry, I like to organize by meals starting with breakfast items on top ending with dinner on the bottom. If you have little ones who sneak in the pantry you can start with the desert and snack items on the top like I do.

3. Containers are your best friends. Store the little knick-knacks you have laying around in them with other like items, you'd be surprised how many extra screws and hex wrenches you have from buying furniture.

4. Keep track of your large item trash pick up, it's useful to know so you're not keeping items you don't want around and gives others a chance to give a new home to the items you don't want.

5. Buy totes for seasonal items so you won't keep everything stashed in a closet and to make more space store your big winter coats in totes as well.

6. Book shelves are a great way to display your various items and great a vertical visual for the room.

7. Cd holders are an easy way to store Tupperware lids or stand up plates for a organized and decorative look.

8. Plastic shower pockets can be cut smaller to fit on the inside of your doors, cars, cabinets and used for vertical gardens.

9. Entry ways give a great opportunity to set up a statement and put furniture for storage, I have a key/ mail holder in mine and a small basket for the little things my husband keeps in his pockets, if you don't want all of that out in an open basket get a box or small chest to keep things covered.

10. Repurpose containers by stripping off the label and storing items in them, a lot of people do that this with spices to give a more uniform look.

11. Cabinet space is really helpful to have when trying to organize your home, you can use tension rods to hold items or add an extra shelf.

12. Over the door hooks are some of the most over looked tools you can use. Nowadays, you can buy kits to make your items hang over the door or just buy the over the door hooks and store your most frequently used items like sweaters, bags or Shoes to keep them in easy access and out of sight.

13. Have a coat rack you don't need? You can turn it into a little diy project and paint it to hold your mugs for display at your coffee station or just to show off your favorites.

14. Buying magazine organizers and have a multi use in your home, store your files in your office, magazines in the guest room or cans in the pantry. Keeping them in the pantry allows you to keep more cans vertically and keep them from falling.

15. Instead of keeping your dish rags out on the counter, get a plastic basket with holes in it so they can dry and not have a musty smell from being stored. Keeps your counters clear and old rags out of sight.

16. Create a command center for your home with all your scheduled events to keep the family informed and yourself. Keeping folders for each member will assure you that all of your documents are being saved and in a secure spot for when you need them.

17. A magnetic knife strip is a decorative and safe way to keep knives away from little hands. Less things on the counter and no having to move things around to make space.

18. Closet organizers help create space and Keep items off the floor and give more space in your closet. Before I started using one my closet was cramped and I never realized the wide variety they have.

19. Lets not forget about outside. Storage ottomans help to be used for seating and storing small items you want to keep out of sight for get togethers.

20. If you really have space outside, I storage shed could be helpful to keep your lawn tools in and keep any out of season items you may have in boxes.

Hope these tips were helpful, lets get a jump start to our spring cleaning that will last all year long.

Until next time my lovelies,
Ariel
